In this class "We don't use our body to get into a pose, we use the pose to get into our body."
You will begin the class with connection to breath, mind and body, releasing the stresses of the day. From there you will move into long holds of poses (Yin) specifically designed to, over time, change the state of fascia, connective tissue, ligaments and regain space and strength in the joints. Each class will end with a calming, supported restorative pose as savasana.
This class is a floor based, slow, contemplative practice that is suitable for all levels of yoga experience; variation options offered.
Benefits of this class may include:
- learning to surrender and soften to what feels unchangeable;
- bringing a calm, steadiness to body and mind;
- shifting your perspective;
- acceptance for where you're at in this present moment;
- developing a nurturing love for yourself;
Yin=yielding, allowing, nourishing.
"When I soften, open, accept, and receive, the flow of energy is immediate. Nothing more is needed to awaken completely than the intimate experience of now." ~Danna Faulds

Shakti is a powerful creative force in life that makes everything possible. It's in you, it's in me, it creates celebration and challenge, it is day and it is night. The path of the yogi or yogini is to listen and open to Shakti.... that which is most alive and awake in every moment. When we can align with the momentum of Shakti, movement in our bodies and lives comes with ease..much like floating downstream on a river. Refine your practice and build endurance while strengthening your inner understanding of Shakti. Classes include intermediate backbends, forward bends, twists, standing poses, balancing poses as well as handstand prep. New to Still Waters Yoga? Gentle Strength Chair Yoga: Regardless of age, strength, or flexibility, this class invites your body to respond to challenges on its own terms. Encouraging balance, strength, and freedom of movement, through the use of props, including the CHAIR, you’ll feel energized again!
Complimenting the physical practice, Kathie will also introduce the class to the 5 Elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, water) of Chinese Medicine. Understanding these elements and how they interact with our bodies, minds, and emotions creates optimal health and well-being. Each element aligns with a season.
You will learn how to use yoga, breathing, physical exercises, meditation and visualization.
For more information on the 5 Elements, Kathie suggests the following book: Wood Becomes Water: Chinese Medicine in Everyday Life, by Gail Reichstein
